I think it just has to do with the season of the year more than anything. Just like at halloween, which is in the fall, we have pumpkins and autumn leaves that are always used in advertising and decorating because they represent that season, we have spring time things like bunnies and chicks and lambs and other springtime things that seem to go along with Easter.

Rabbits and eggs are both symbols of the fertility goddess Eostre. Her symbol is also the moon, in which some cultures see a rabbit instead of a face. Eggs also symbolize the moon and are the ultimate symbol of creation and new life. The basket is a symbol of the womb in which this new life is carried.
The feast day is pagan and was widely celebrated way before the time of Jesus. Like pretty much all holidays, it was adopted by Christians to help get more converts. However, since the point is to celebrate new life and the hope of continuance, Christian symbols of a Resurrection day and the old pagan symbols mean the same thing. Just like Christmas, we are all celebrating the same thing, just using different symbols.

bunnies were mythical harbingers of spring and the sacred animal of the pagan goddess Eoster.
eggs symbolize new life and so easily go with the idea of he resurrection of Christ.
In the Middle Ages, servants were given eggs by their masters. The baskets come from the Catholic tradition of blessing food in baskets on Easter.
The Germans had the belief in a proto-type Easter bunny who was beleived to lay colored eggs. They brought this idea over to America.
What they have to do with Easter to quote a bit from my own story is this:
"Mythologically-speaking the resurrection of Christ, the Easter Bunny, and Easter eggs are very much the same in their symbolism. They all represent new life that comes with the Spring season so it was only natural that pagan converts would retain these images and mesh them with their new faith."

those are symbols the pagans used in there spring celebrations called the spring equinox or Ostara and other names. when the Christians were trying to convert all of the pagans to Christianity they took from our holidays and did there best to turn them into Christians holidays. that is why your Easter has the Easter bunny, eggs, flowers, and what not.
