A lot of students feel intimidated by me simply b/c I don't put up with their foolishness. I am trying to prepare them for the real world. How would it look if I went to my job with my pants hanging off my behind and every other person that I don't like I call them a cornball and I be very disrespectful to the public? Nobody would want to hire me and deal with me.
Teenages think they know it all and don't know a dayum thang

In such situations, both the teacher and student have lost sight of their reason for being in the classroom. Arguably, a teacher might intimidate a student to motivate him to apply himself to learning, but should not do so where or when it will cause personal embarrassment - i.e., in front of others. A student will intimidate a teacher to satisfy his ego, and is likely to make certain that it IS done in front of others. This, of course, has nothing to do with getting an education. It occurs most often with "students" who have no interest in becoming educated, but are putting in time in school (occasionally) because some friends are there, and because it is a relatively trouble-free place to hang out. So you see, intimidation by a teacher can sometimes be justified, but from the standpoint of education, intimidation by a student cannot.

I would like to find a teacher that can intimidate students and win that battle - especially in the middle and high school areas. You are setting yourself up to fail if you try to intimidate students - it is better to earn their respect - your life is much easier.
As for students intimidating teachers - depends on what they try - I would have to give serious consequences to any of my students who tried - it could run from removal for one class to suspension from school. It is bad for the rest of the class to have one student trying to intimidate a teacher - the learning is interrupted.

I don't think teachers intentionally do that unless the students are behaving in an inappropriate manner. The conduct of teenagers is out of control today so a teacher has to be a jerk sometime.
A student should always be respectful of an authority figure.

i think kids try and intimidate teachers because they don't realize it's that inappropriate, and they actually think it will work.
i think very rarely do teachers really try and intimate kids. i think kids FEEL intimidated, but the teacher isn't trying to do this.

Well, both are wrong, certainly. But if there is some specific situation you have in mind, you'll need to provide details before I'd be willing to weigh in definitively.
