I want to keep it indoors because we live in Michigan and its really cold during the winter and I want the rabbit to be comfortable.

A rabbit will get used to being inside, so you can't change your mind and put him outside. I don't see a problem with having him inside, as he should take to a litter box, like a cat and enjoy some freedom running around inside with supervision, as you wouldn't want him in a closet hiding. They are clean and would be almost like a funny kitty with BIG ears. LOL

I had indoor bunnies when I was younger- they were fine. They lived in their cages during the day while we were at school and work and then at night we let them out to run around the house, sometimes they'd have an accident but mostly they were litter trained. You do have to make sure you keep cables up off the floor or cover them with a split piece of PVC piping so they don't chew on the cords... Rabbits make great pets as long as you handle them a lot and give them the attention they need.

Buy two or three XL 3 or 4ft long dog crates and join them end to end, you can use puppy pen play panels with a couple of old bedsheets cloth-pegged over the top to stop escapes and make a nice big run. Job done! If you're handy with DIY you can also build in wooden shelves into the dog crates. The crates have more height than rabbit cages, ideally you want something at least 3ft high so they don't bash their noses or ears on things when they periscope!

My aunt and some friends of mine both have indoor rabbits. They can be litter trained and you can even let them hop around (kind of like a cat) if you do this, the big thing you need to do is "rabbit proof" your house. This includes making sure wires are out of reach, they love to chew on them which can be tragic!

Here is a FAQ on litter training

I had a house rabbit for years. She lived in a rabbit hutch and we could let her run around the house (supervised).

I suggest you go to the House Rabbit Society website and read up on house bunnies. They have a TON of info.

I had an indoor bunny. His name was Spike. He slept in a cage in my garage, but we let him out every day to play outside (we have a fenced yard) or inside. I have a friend who had an indoor bunny that she litterbox trained and he ran around all over the place. But, you have to watch that they don't chew on electrical cords. The bunny bite right through my frinds new Sony Playstation cord, thank God it wasn't on at the time.

I have four indoor rabbits. They're great. Outside rabbits don't live as long because of heat stroke, flystrike, hypothermia, predators, etc. Here is a great website http://www.rabbit.org

I would say yes. My good friend has 3 pet rabbits and loves them very much. They are very destructive at her house though so make sure you monitor them and their chewing activities.

Good Luck

no, no , no , please no.
i thought i wanted a rabbit but never again. he was nasty, he would spin around and pee, so it was like he was the spinning sprinkler system, and it smelled soooo bad like amonia. i had to clean him all the time. and he would chew everything but the wood i got from the pet store that he was suppose to chew on. he chewed plastic, wood, wires, paper, you name it he ate it. and i bought a small puppy that was about 4 lbs, and one night i woke up and my puppy was screaming so loud, the dam rabbit was trying to have sex with her! he was riding her back. i was srceaming and the rabbit ran off. my mom came in the room but she didn't see it, and she said he probably wasn't trying to have sex with my dog, so i had to wait and let him violate my dog again just to show my mom. i called the vet and they said he may grow out of it when he realize she won't have bunnies. but i wasn't going to wait. so i bought him a cage and put him outside. he died about 2 weeks later, and i was happy. i love animals, but that rabbit was horrible! don't get one, unless girls are different.
