Okay, so yesterday, my mom saw my friend and she is about average for my grade of girls. I am like extremely tall. She said that I could be a model. I thought about it and i really would like to pursue modeling now, at 12. Do they have younger models? How do you get jobs? I live in oklahoma and I have no idea what to do. I would like to be a catalog model. I don't want to do runway. I bet I could when I get older though. I know I am lucky to be tall, so I thought that I should use it to my advantage. I am about 5' 4'' or 5' 5''. I am really interested in this and I really need to know like how to put together a book or portfolio. What do I need to put in it? I have no idea on what to do. So, awnser back with any other tips please!!

Hello,
The modeling industry is very competitive.
I'm 15 and have been modeling since i was 6.
It is not true that you need to be a certain height, though for catwalk modeling they prefer it if you are taller. If you are a teen model though, you usually don't see anyone with a lower height than 5'6.
For a portfolio, you don't put one together until you join a modeling agency [ I strongly recommend Ford modeling agency if you live in America] They will take photos of you in different outfits [i.e. swimwear, sportswear, formal, casual] and the photo's from them will go into your portfolio. Though, you get your portfolio from going to castings [ when you get called in for a modeling job] Just say you got the job and it was a spreadsheet for a magazine, You would take out all of the pages you were in from the magazine and put it in your portfolio.
If you want to do overseas modeling, they prefer it if you have blond hair [sorry to anyone thats brunette, red, black etc]
Because Asians, Japanese, Malaysians, and all those country's have black hair and they think of blond's as goddesses.
I personally have been on the catwalks in Malaysia, Japan, and Asia several times.
It is untrue that you need to be stick thin, or anorexic. I'm 5'8, and weigh 55kgs.
Print work is the best type of modeling. Though, Very competitive. If you go to a casting, it isn't just you, it is around 300 people from different agency at times.
You usually only get notified 2 hours earlier which makes it difficult.
Hope this help,
x Jessikah

Well...... the first thing that you need to do is talk this through and through with your mom. Then both of you need to go to a very respectable agency, meaning both you and your mom needs to do your homework. You can't jump at the first agency you come about. You need to research on the agency, find out how long they have been in business and ask around to find out if others know about this agency. You need to act as a detective here, if you want to protect your self from horrible scams. After getting signed up with an agency then they should explain anything you want to know in details and tell you what to do next. They in turn will help you put together a portfolio and jobs.
Good Luck!!!

When I was 13 I came very close to getting a portfolio done. My dad took me to a modeling agency, and they said I had to get a portfolio, at the time it was around $600. It's just pics of you in a few different outfits, hairstyles.
Then when you have that done, you go to a modeling agency, and they work for you. Obviously you pay them, and they send out your portfolio to all different places that need models. Then they call you when you've landed a job.
At the time for me, I was 13 and they said i'd be good in clothing catalogs and jobs like that. This is going back 16 years for me and at that time at only 13, they said I would make $50-$150 an hour. So i'm sure it's better $$$ now.
You can do it, you just have to be willing to spend the $$ in the beginning to get a great portfolio done and hire an agnecy to represent you. I never did it b/c of the portfolio $$$. My dad wasn't much of a risk taker!

Don't worry about your height. I am only 5 foot 5 and have been approached by model scouts twice..for face modelling..you can model for makeup brands etc and they don't need your height. I did not pursue it though cos I have a good career that I studied for all my life and decided that would give me a more stable and better income..if you want, just go fior it..but be careful and go with your parents..you cannot always trust the model scouts…and if you don't make it or, like me, don't go ahead with the offer..be happy knowing god gave you a special gift of being pretty!! Good luck honey x
