Forget graphics! They don't make a difference when the game is engaging and creative. Graphics are only an issue when they severly hamper your ability to grasp what is going on in the game. Judging a game based on graphics alone is (to me) as shallow as loving someone only for their looks.
Having said that, graphics can make a great game even greater. Example: Twilight Princess. That game was absolutely beautiful! The graphics transformed Hyrule into an incredibly realistic environment. This may sound silly, but Twilight Princess made me feel like Hyrule might really exist somewhere.
So there you have it. I love a game with awesome gameplay, but I won't ignore good graphics.

For me the game has to have a good storyline and gameplay. The all time favorite game for many people is FF7 or even games that the graphics is alittle shy on but has a great storyline/gameplay. To me graphics come 2nd.
I do disagree with the person below me. While yes you have to look at the graphics thats not the point. I have never bought a game soly for the graphics. While you do look at the graphics its not the main point for buying a game...or shouldnt be. A game can have awesome graphics then turn out to suck because the company spent so much time making them look good they had to throw out a good story line *cough* every FF game after 7 *cough*

Personally i think gameplay is more important. Or a 50/50 mix but gameplay is still the most important. I`d rather have a well developed game than a game with good graphics and shity game play.
another reason why gameplay is more important to have is, most of teh time, you can enhance graphics, (tvs, pcs, etc.) but you cant change a games gameplay.

Gameplay. Gameplay gameplay gameplay gameplay. Graphics make no difference to me in games. I could care less how pretty a game is if it sucks. Too much focus is on graphics these days, not enough on storylines, character development, unlockables, etc. In my honest opinion, the SNES had the best graphics ever.

Gameplay and storyline are most important. If a game looks amazing, but isn't fun to play, then is it a good game? A game that is like a book that you can immerse yourself in, and feel like you are part of it is the ultimate goal in gaming as far as I'm concerned. Part of the immersion is the great gameplay. You have to be able to forget you're playing a game.

both and it also depends on the game. Gameplay is the main and it helps alot if its got good graphics like Halo 2, excellent gameplay and the game graphics makes the game ever better.
So yea both, gameplay is a must and graphics should be good too cos the graphics are what you'll be looking at alot while playing the game.

well, i'm a gamer from the older school. i had my intellivision in 1985, and was thrilled. i've since played many MANY games on many systems that are not microsoft, as i don't believe in the existence of microsoft.
for seven years, i played a game that was nothing but text. nothing but green letters on a black backround.
but todays market, you actually need both.
the best game in the world (dragon warrior III) could not sell so well today, because it looks like... well, it just looks dated. decent gameplay, but it could have been better.
by the same token, you could have the most beautiful game, but without gameplay, which i'll assume means storyline, and gameplay mechanics (what you do, and how you do it)... like, if all you are able to do is walk around a town, kicking everything, and there's only two cities... well, without anything to do, no one wants to play it. take, for example (if you haven't figured it out) radiata stories.
so i'd have to say that it's a mixed batch, 2/5 graphics, and 3/5 mechanics

definitely game play! if there is a game that has really good graphics it will draw me in to try it, but if it sucks, it sucks. i can enjoy a game with shitty graphics as long as it is fun, on the flip side if a game has great graphics and piss poor gameplay i wont play it for any amount of time after that realization.

GAMEPLAY.
Good graphics just enhance the game, but the game in it's entireity is based on the plot and storyline. Some games have amazing graphics, but don't take long to beat. I like old school games, so graphics really don't matter, as long as there's something that makes you want to play.
