I'm planning on purchasing Final Fantasy XI: The Vana'diel Collection 2007, and I've been looking into purchasing inexpensive, out-of-print copies of the strategy guides. I've checked with Amazon.com, and they cost just about twice as much, and I'm currently on a tight budget.

As much as I really want to play FFXI, I want to get those guidebooks so I can study them and learn more about the game before my copy arrives at my doorstep.

Thanks in advance.

If you live in the US there are a number of Half Price Bookstores across the country. I have on a number of different occassions went there and found older gaming, roleplaying guides and DM books.

Well my personal choice is to play the game first and beat it by myself. I get a feeling of pride (or what ever you want to call it) that I beat a hard game by myself. When I use a guide/cheats I feel bad as I just ruined a gaming experience I will never get back. But if you feel as you must have a guide for a game you have yet to even play and not need it. Going to cheatcc or gamefaq will help. I believe they have guides. (I have nothing against using either after I beat the game first by myself)
