I would just give my son a little of something that was soft enough for him.
Some mushed banana, some cantelope (he would just suck on it), mashed potatos... This was only every few days, He didnt get solids on a regular basis until like 9 months.

you have to introduce one food at a time, start with rice cereal mixed with formula, feed about 7-8 spoonfuls, and make sure she does fine with it. Do this 3 times a day for at least a week, then you can try it with a different kind of cereal. Be especially careful with fruits and other foods, watch closely for allergies. Also, if your baby has a lot of teeth you can give her stage 2 foods earlier. stay away from the spaghetti and lasagna and all the carbs, because thats all she will want to eat. eventually you can mix fruit with the rice cereal or baby oatmeal and they will like it better. keep up the normal routine with bottles during this time. when you switch to whole milk at a year is the time to cut down on the actual amount of milk. until then 24-30 oz per day is fine, when they switch to whole milk it should be 12-16 oz per day, plus some juice. good luck!

When I first started (3 1/2 months) I fed my little girl baby oatmeal at bedtime and did bottle feedings regularily for the rest of the day. At 4 months I added half a jar of stage one baby food to the oatmeal. At 5 months I started with oatmeal in the morning and at bedtime and regular bottle feedings the rest of the day. Now at 6 months she is doing oatmeal morning and night, a jar of baby food with a bottlein the middle of the day, and regular bottle feedings through out the rest of the day.

I started my little girl on cereal. I fed her cereal for "dinner" followed by a bottle with water (I breastfed and she did not take milk out of a bottle- she just plain refused it and only took water from a bottle) This actually helped her sleep through the night because she was full. Start out with cereal and see how they do. then introduce vegetables (not mixed so you can see if they are allergic or not) one at a time for about a week or two and then introduce another type of vegetables. When you run out of vegetables to introduce, then start with fruits. After you make sure your baby is not allergic to anything you can mix it up.
You should follow up with formula since that is where most of their nutrition comes from.
Gradually work it up from one solid food feeding to two and then eventually three. Just follow your baby's mood and interest in the food. It will take time to introduce solids.
Hope that helps you.

I started with a few tablespoons of rice mixed in with breast milk after she had been breastfed for a bit and after she got the hang of swallowing I introduced baby pureed veggies and just started with 1/2 a jar. I now feed her 1 jar of baby food a day either mid afternoon or late afternoon. Her main food source continues to be breastmilk.
