Great for corporations, not so good for workers or citizens. Unless these agreements also formalize uniform regulations in regards to labor standars and environmental issues, it will simply be a race to the cheapest, most exploitable labor pool.

I think NAFTA hasn't helped the majority of people in North America at all. If it were a big success there wouldn't be such a big problem with immigration here. I think NAFTA has helped the CEO-class a lot, and that is probably what it was really intended to do.
update: I expect a bunch of radcons will give me thumbs-down. They usually attack me and say I want to repeal NAFTA. But did I say that? I think NAFTA needs to be changed. There IS something between total capitalist/libertarian "free" trade and "protectionism," folks. We need to find the balance. Before it is too late for the American middle class.

Nafta was the master plan put into play by the World financial community to break America's strangle hold on goods and services. With the implementation of Nafta, we are now closer to America being less of a sovereign nation and more of a world federation. It was carefully calculated and skillfully executed.

NAFTA was the first ugly step at inauguration of North America. All the Dick Cheney's and Wal Marts etc. will have a heyday at the expense of all citizens. I just finished reading this book "too Close for Comfort" by Maude Barlow. WOW! First I've seen documents about this erasing all boarders and what it will entail. They are very long and use Orwellian speak, but to paraphrase Mexico is to be used for cheap labour, Canada for resources, American can expect living standards to lower continuously. More and more deregulation is putting all of our health at risk.
According to this book right now Canada is obliged to sell gas and oil from Alberta's Tar Sands to the States at rock bottom prices even leaving Canadians short of heating fuel in the winter. Canada is a cold country. Governments role is no longer keeping citizens safe or what is best for the public, like jobs, and certain rights. We are swiftly moving to please only the business sector. George Bush scrapped all/any law suits to have arsenic removed from American drinking water. Plus laws are made daily making corporations safe from libel. NO MATTER WHAT harm they unleash. This includes faulty medicines, polluted lakes, rivers and oceans. Depleting Forrest's natural resources, not safely dumping toxic waste. This all reads like a horror story with no end....NAFTA and now CAFTA....suck big time....MARY.

Good treaty with solid intentions but failed a bit in its application. A lesson for the future. Mexico could have used MAJOR investment in its infrastructure for the treaty to have been more successful.
