The trick is to do a lot of back strengthening exercises- so that when you're getting all bent over, nothing gets strained- preparation is KEY! I'd be happy to show you some of my favorite exercises sometime ;)

I do alot of lifting at work, its best to bend with your knees. Athough sometimes it isn't possible, I've been off work now for almost three weeks with a strained back muscle. Be careful!! You don't want that to happen, its very painful!!

I think you get bend over safely as long as not picking up something heavy if so bend your knees keep the object close to your body

not too sure about straining but I know on legally blonde they have the bend and flip method.
