It depends. Sex isn't consensual if one of the parties is under the age of consent. Until you reach a certain age, you are considered incapable of giving your consent, so yes, it's illegal to have sex with someone before they are of age. I don't find it particularly illogical. I believe that people under a certain age are more easily coerced and may not understand the implications of sexual activity. The law is in place to protect them. You're way off base to say that just because someone is the same age as you, they can't take advantage of you. They absolutely can. As for "knowing better", the same applies. Being the same age does not mean that you are at the same level of maturity and it does not protect you from being lied to (nor does it protect a partner if you're doing the lying/coercion). Luckily for folks like you, if you're both underage, then you're both committing statutory rape. Even luckier... nothing bad can happen unless someone presses charges. So if you have both thought it out, thoroughly discussed contraception (a gal turning up pregnant, or someone getting an STD, is a big indicator that you've been having underage sex), talked about your relationship and what sex means for it, and are generally on the same page, it's unlikely that anyone would wind up pressing charges for statutory rape. There is of course the issue of parents. I sincerely doubt that you have your own home if you are under the age of consent. So it's important that your parents are either cool with you being sexually active (which is best, since they're the ones who you'll need to ask for help if something unexpected happens) or are not anywhere near the home. Parents are usually the ones who press charges because they're not happy with their little angel being not-so-innocent. In short, it is up to you, but if you aren't willing to face the consequences, you aren't ready to have sex.

why didn't you keep the door locked? why should everyone suffer over your mistake of not keeping the door locked or barricading the door if your door wouldn't lock or stay shut on its own, especially if you knew full well that you had someone else in the house living with you? you and your wife were irresponsible. I really hope you were just joking, because if sex was totally illegal among guys and women, although it would do nothing more than slightly irk women since women don't need it with guys at all, guys would kill themselves or just have foreplay and sex with women anyway, because need it with women.
such an absurd rule would cause far more harm than good?
also, while you're at it, how about you make masturbation illegal in case someone walks in? and how about you make it illegal to shower without clothes on as well in case someone walks in?
your posted question here is absurd and ridiculous. your son will want and desire and need foreplay and sex with women by the time he's a full grown male adult. all guys need it with women.
foreplay and sex between guys and women should be legal and it should stay that way, and in addition to that, premarital foreplay and sex between guys and women should be legal and stay that way as well.

Traumatized completely by seeing you and your wife having sex???????
Wouldn't it be a tad bit simpler - not to mention probably more likely to succeed - if you and your wife do one of the following:
1) Do all the really fetishistic positions far from civilized society.
2) Join Weightwatchers.
I think one or the other - or maybe both - of these ideas could reduce his traumitization level next time.

You make a good point.
Once, I ate some Mexican food and I got VERY sick. The same thing happened to a friend of mine, with a hot dog.
Shouldn't we ban eating? It's just too risky to be putting stuff in our mouths.
Look at the tens of thousands killed on our highways annually.
Driving should DEFINITELY be banned.
Swimming? Certainly ban it. Just look at the number of people drowning each year.
Trampolines, motorcycles, electricity, airplanes, knives, hammers, milk (ingesting spoiled milk can be fatal) . . . There are way too many dangerous activities which remain completely legal.
Birth should be banned. Do you realize that EVERY SINGLE BIRTH results in DEATH?
Definitely ban births.
It's for our own safety, security, and health.

Not going to happen. Man and woman were made to be together. With your new law, humanity would become extinct in one generation. Great idea.
We will continue to pursue our intimate relationships. Most of us keep it private. My wife and I have been surprised maybe twice in our lives by the children. We were under the sheets and simply held very still while answering their questions and sending them back to bed.
Have fun. Maybe you need to talk to them privately about what they saw and explain conjugal relationships to them. Otherwise, let it blow over and be more careful next time.

You already have a roadmap. Just follow the development of the existing laws against same gender sexual acts and you can a senator to carry the bill right now.

I don't understand why he was traumatized unless your sex consists of some weird and outlandish practices. Does it have anything to do with handcuffs and ball-gags, or small furry animals, or maybe a variety of kitchen appliances and gardening implements?
Maybe you should just do as the others suggested and just lock your door.

You should immediately stop having sex. Maybe it'll catch on-- without having to pass another damn law. Good luck.

As ridiculous as this seems, many forms of sex already are illegal. How crazy is that?

So...we're giving up sex for the sake of the children.
Hum.
Kind of like burning down the fire house to encourage fire prevention.
I'll pass.
