I sure do this place is the best to go with your family it's so much fun. They also have live mariachi for free and you get to ask them to play songs for you and if you can or even if you dont know how to sing you can even ask them if you can go up there and sing with them. The food is delicious I love it.

A good, off-the-beaten path place is Gualegetza. It is a Oaxacan restaurant that specializes in mole sauces. There are two location, one downtown and one in Venice.
A more popular choice may be El Cholo. It is always festive and crowded. I like the food, but other people I have gone with have mixed reviews. There is one on Western in LA and one in Santa Monica near the beach.
Finally, I would suggest you check out losangeles.citysearch.com , find the restaurant section
and look under Mexican cuisine. Then, you can look at reviews of people in LA who frequent the different restaurants.

There is one on Olvera Street. I don't remember the name, but it is the first one you come to on the right side if you enter Olvera street from the Union Station side. If you are going for a late dinner, however, I would not recommend this place, as that area of LA becomes a bit unsavory and unsafe.
A great alternative is Tamayo's on Olympic Blvd. It is bit pricey, but a great restaurant. The place is done in the motif based on the work of mexican artist Rufino Tamayo.

El Tepeyac, most definetly - its one of them hole in the wall joints. But Ive been going here since I was a lil girl and though I live an hour or so from there my family visits quite often. I've watched this place GROW so fast over the years. The lines can be harsh, but let me tell you THE BEST MEXICAN EVER, gotta get their MANUELS SPECIAL its a extremely large burrito that feeds a family of 4-6 and its only like $15 or so.

I used to live in Pasadena and now I'm on the east coast. Everytime I go to visit (usually 2X yr) I take an extra suitcase to bring back burritos (we like the machaca and hollenbeck) from El Tepayac on Evergreen in East LA. Incidentally--this restaurant is a real dive---but the food is outstanding!!

Guelaguetza in West LA. at Sepulveda Blvd & Palms Blvd (it's on Palms Blvd) is awesome. It's my current fav. It's not your typical Mexican fare like every other place in Los Angeles. It's regional Oaxacan specializing in mole sauces. You will not be disappointed!
