Moving to a town I did not know 1 person, I had to force myself being more social.
Get into a sport activity in group. Join a cooking course, follow a painting class. Do voluntarily work in the neighbourhood. Read local little newspapers and go to local theater plays. Get involved with taking care of streetdogs, cats. Say yes when people invite you out. Invite people yourself. Be open.
You'll meet people in all activities, and somehow you'll end up with friends. Find out what you like and get outdoors. say hello to other people when you enter an elevator. Smile every time you enter a store. React on articles in magazines.

I kind of have the same problems every time a new school year starts. You know because you don't always get classes with your old friends and you don't know how to make new ones, especially if you are shy, which I am. I would join a group you like to do. That way you can meet people that enjoy the same interests you do. Also, just try and be a little bit more social. People probably feel weird when you don't talk so if you just be yourself and be social. You should make friends in no time. And remember if they don't want to be your friend then it is their loss, not yours!!! I hope this helps and I hope you find some really great friends.
