I heard that you cannot put a newborn in a onesie until the cord falls off... Is this true?

I'm a grandmother and I've never heard that one before. I think you can put whatever you want on it. The nurses wil certainly tell you if not. Congrats!

No, but you should have newborn diapers with a notch in the front for the cord or fold the diaper down in the front so the cord is exposed and not under the diaper. This will allow it to dry and fall off sooner. This usually takes about 10-14 days. There is no clinical research that shows cleaning the cord with alcohol will make it dry up quicker. Cleaning with soap and water and letting it dry is fine. It is a good idea to check with the nurse at your pediatrician's office for your Dr.'s preferences on your newborn's care.

I just went to a class (I am 35 weeks pregnant) and they said the BEST thing to put a baby in is a onesie, because it's loose.

I put onesies on both of my children when they still had the cord attached and it was fine. Just make sure to keep it clean and dry.

That' s not true at all. I put my son on a onesie the day he was born I didn't like the hospital t-shirt, they were rough and I didn't like the smell. I brought one to the hospital with me.

No that's not true. But I would recommend a simole outfit to come home in bc people will be looking at your baby, plus sometimes the onesies are kinda big when they are first born...they haven't totally filled out yet...unless u use the preemie size, even though he/she may not be preemie its a better fit.

Of course you can, but they do also sell short sleeve and long sleeve wrap shirts - its like a onesie without the bottom snappie part. It wraps and snaps on the sides like a sari or smock

Onsies are fine. My youngest had to leave in sleepers it was so cold that day. I don't think I have come across any baby clothing that stays away from the cord to be honest.

You can, but I wouldn't advise it. I put my second born in a onsie before the stump fell of and it got caught on the onsie and tore off. I will not put a newborn in a onsie ever again!

No that is not true, you cannot have clothing that is tight or might irritate the cord, but you can put them in onsies. Becareful of the diapers too!
