Are we really that boorish and ignorant. Is our our ignorance only exceeded by our arrogance? We like to refer to you as our smart cousins across the pond. Is that true. What do Brits think about us.

I know I have the highest regard for the British probably due to my affinity for football..the real football.. and my ancestry.

just wondering

Firstly, Danagasta... I'm sorry that you lost out due to a Brit... And I accpet that you don't respect that particular British person, but please don't judge our entire culture on one person... There are bad apples in every basket...

Ok... Now to the question... I'm a Brit myself and I know a lot of Americans... In fact, I got to know one in particular so well that we ended up getting married!

The majority of Americans that I know are great people... And I love being around them... The culture "over there" is so much more friendly and there is a great emphasis on personal goals and acheivements... Over here, you could be the first man to land on mars and you'd maybe get a handshake (if you're lucky!)

I do sometimes feel like "the trophy Brit" and I often get asked to talk to somebody, just so they can hear my accent... But hey... if it makes them feel good, then who am I to argue?!

Unfortunately, just as the press in the US makes it seem there are a lot of Brits who openly bad mouth Americans (even though there are a lot of us who don't), the reverse is also true... The press over here portrays most Americans as pompous, arrogant, loud-mouths... I know from experience that this is not the case.

It's just a sad thing that the voice of the majority is not heard... it's those with ridiculous attitudes that shout the loudest and get all the attention...

let me help you out here since you seem to be fishing for compliments. the average well off british person hates everything america stands for, but the young ones love black americans because of rap, hip hop etc. they all want to be black americans and sometimes mimmick the way black americans talk. in short the only thing british people love about america is the black culture you guys have. if you think am lying, take a trip to britain and find out yourself. i have ben to britain 10 times so i know

I'm American (Native American) and am sick of people thinking the Brits "sound smart." I lost an important position because of one of them a few years ago, and haven't respected them since. Then there's the smallpox blanket thing they have to live down.
