I am afraid I have to drop my Literature class as I am at a 42% ~_~. We have had midterms already and I do not think I can fix it now.. How bad would it be for me to drop?

It means you want get the credit for the class, and at some point will have to make it up if it's required for your degree. 42% at midterm may sound worse than you think if there are some big projects down the road. Also you can make up the gap if the final is worth a huge chunk of your total grade as well.

Besides a guilty feeling, you mean? A few W's in college won't matter and they are a far better than receiving an F. Getting a W would only matter if you are planning to apply to graduate schools. As long as it does not become a pattern it should not hurt you. Pull that rotten tooth out and promise yourself that you will brush regularly in the future.

Colleges and Universities usually have due dates where you can withdraw from a class without getting an F. Check your academic calendar to make sure you can.

Its better to drop then get an F. W does nothing to your GPA.
