Good Q! For me personally it would have been a relief to get some type of assistance and /or the option of having daycare onsite at the workplace at the time I needed it. Why?..
1- This would allow parents to take their lunch with their kids more often.
2- It would lessen child rearing costs, given workplaces that offer daycare for employees' children finance this service in the most part, or give it as a perk.
3-In any type of emergency the parent would be closer to the child.
4-Parent has the opportunity to be more in contact or in a more direct communication with the child care providers & teachers the children may have at daycare.
5-The parent lessens transportation costs given he/she leaves the workplace with his child, no need to be asking or paying other people to pick up the child.
6-More quality time with children, cutting back on the time it would take you to get transported to another daycare facility.
etc...etc....I see more benefitial than a disadvantage!!!

I work at a place that offers on-site day care, and the advantages are great. Travel time is less, kids are close in case of emergency, in a fire drill I can actually see them leave the building, I know the staff really well, and the cost is less (about 1/2 what they charge parents who work outside the building) just to name a few.
Believe it or not there are a few disadvantages, but they're small and far outweighed by the positives. I have one child with food allergies. I am constantly being called in my office with "Can she have this?" quesions and I know that if I worked anywhere else they would call the kitchen staff. But because I'm there they ask me, even though it usually means I have to go into the kitchen to read ingredient labels. Like I said, it's just small stuff but it can be irritating several times every day.

One advantage would be not so much running back and forth if there was a problem with your child then you are right there to take care of it. There also wouldn't be no running across town to drop your kid off in one place then back to your job. Also it would allow for parents to spend more time with their kids which is vital to children. I don't see any real disadvantages other then its still not home where a kid should get to grow up BUT that is my humble opinion.
