Why not? I think it's great that men would like to take on their wives name. However, it may become a geneology nightmare! I don't think it'll catch on too much, it's not that great of an idea. Actually, anymore these days you see combinations of things going on...some wives keep their maiden name, or hypenate with their old and new name, or they both keep their own names and their kids hyphenate their names with both. It's new times and new things are being tried. However, I am a traditionalist and I took my husband's name gladly.

'Way back in 1989, my husband offered to do this if I were not taking his surname. It's because of kids - having to have their last names hyphenated, having only or either mom's or dad's surname - it's way too confusing for kids. So my husband seriously suggested it just in case I wanted to keep my maiden name. However, I liked the idea of taking his name, so that's what I did.

I think its a good idea
choice is always a good idea. there are too many rules about marriage anyway.some things are just nobodies business. why cant gays marry? i don't agree with what they do to each other, but its none of my business. they love with all their hearts, they should marry if they want and choose to pick any name they want the gov. keeps track of all of us by a number anyway.maybe i will change my name to smurfett.if i did it would be my business
m-m-m this wasn't supposed to come off snotty! It was a good question thanks for getting me thinking this morning lol

I do not see any problems with it. Let them do it, especially if their name is Gay Focker.
My maiden name means "daughter of ..." who was a viking warrior. I happened to marry a guy whose name meant a "potato".

Why not?!
I actually thought you could do that anyway...
You could be even more proactive and use the fisrt half of one and the last half of the other... Could get some cool combinations there!

Well I don't support the idea but then again I guess it is no different than the wife hyphanating her name smith-jones.

I personally like tradition. I don't know why it has to change but to each their own.
