My daughter's previous ballet teacher told her that a "classical" bun for ballerina is with front centre parting, bun is to be tied not higher than the ear-level. But when my daughter told that to her New teacher , she was not agreeable to that!

Just like there are stylistic differences in dance positions between the various schools of classical ballet, there are also going to be differences with the bun. I have also heard of a few schools that prefer the lower bun with a part.

In ballet, even though tradition is highly prized, things are not always done the same way everywhere. This is why attending summer intensives away from one's home studio is good training for a student in order to get exposure to the wider variety of stylistic differences. When advanced dancers work with new teachers and choreographers, they know enough to ask, "How would you like me to do this?" instead of just assuming that everyone does things the same way.

P.S. You'll also see other attire differences dealing with types of tights, pointe shoes, ribbons and elastic, make-up preferences, etc.

I was a dancemom for 12 years. The classical bun has no part, is totally slicked back (damp hair & hairspray), with not a hair out of place, and generally at ear level.

Both of these sites tell you how to create the "perfect" ballet bun. At first glance, they both seem to be saying similar things... And the buns both seem to be pretty high up on the head...
