a couple of things to know
xbox 360 is good but they charge to play online for 49.99 a year
it has a huge power supply about the size of a brick
its hard drive cant be change until microsoft releases a bigger one but it has dvd playback it would of being nice if it had internal hd dvd playback and last my 360 broke down 3 times in one year and instead of microsoft giving a new console fresh out iof the box they gave me a refurbished console
ps3 on the other has an internal blu-ray player which retails for about 800.00 at the storesit a little bigger than the 360 its power supply is internal so all you to connect is a power cabel similar to computer cabel the blu-ray comes in handy because the games are actually blu-ray themselves which menas50 giga byte of data can store on one single blu-ray disc making ps3 games much longer and better graphics
my opinion i think the ps3 will the better games in about 1 year because the 360 has 1 year headstart and currently the 360 has better games in thew moment
i hjave the 20 gigabyte version ps3
which is 499.99 with tax it comes to around 525.00
it includes a wireless bluetooth controller
the charge cabel an external hard drive which can be upgraded with laptop harddrive
it has it has blu-ray playback
it evens has an internet browser where you can actually watch videos on youtube.com
i also have 360 core
it has a wired controller power supply and video cables but no harddrive it retails for 299.99 with tax around 324.00
but if you your 360 to be similar to ps3 you to buy extras
wireless controller 49.99
battery and carge cabel for wireless 19.99
hd dvd player which is external 199.99
harddrive 99.99
do the math and the ps3comes to around 524.00
the 360 300.00
harddrive 100.00
hd dvd player 200.00
wireless controller and battery with charge
which retails70.00
xbox live gold required to games online 50.00 for 1 year
the ps3 is free
a total of 720.00 and does even include an internet browser
tax so close really close to 800.00

I say 360.
It has the an immense library of games, as well as the rights to several franchise games, and it keeps expanding. And, of course, the Halo franchise, which have had preorders out for a few months already. Arguably one of the most anticipated games there is, short of Zelda.
Xbox Live is easy to use, with tons of download options.
Graphics are barely different, if at all, from the Sony PS3 when hooked up to an HDTV.
The price is a few hundred lower, and being that it was released much earlier, the 360 has had many of it's "bugs" worked out. The PS3 is brand new and it has not had much time to figure out all of the kinks.
I have a Wii and a 360, and I don't own, but have played on several occasions, a PS3. This is just a first hand opinion. I say test them out yourself, then make an experienced decision based on it.
Have fun!

Xbox only recently within the last two months has the ability to go 1080 so the number of game titles at full hidef for the PS3 and Xbox are about equal.
Playstation 3 does offer more out off the box than Xbox 360, and the PS3 network is free to owners of the PS3 and ibncludes video chat during play
# PS3 premium-60 gig
# Blue Ray
# True 1080p HiDef
# PSP game share
# The internal 60 gig hard drive- capable of storing Ps2 memorycard game saves, photo, movies, music etc…
# Ability to hook up external hard drives, and jump drives- and transfer music, photos, videos, etc……. Playstation 3 Solutions
# Key board and mouse abilities
# Surf anywhere on the net like any computer (PS3 Has it's own web browser)
#
# Play games- Resistance Fall of Man- Motostorm(out in march)
# Play all the Ps2 (2400 games)
Wifi.
Xbox 360 Premium-
# 20 gig hard drive you can load music etc.. but then you loose game space...
# Xbox live has fees but is great fun and has a large community
# Has awesome Great game titles and exclusives
# 1080i update available- but not blue Ray
# web Browser for internet browsing yet but a new updated version of the xbox will be out this summer so maybe…..
# Xbox 360 currently has more games available and Halo 3 is soon to be released.

I've answered this question a few times before:
Xbox 360:
Great graphics
Xbox live (plenty of support)
Better line up of games
PS3:
Great graphics
Blu Ray
Six axis (a cheap rip off of wii features)
Graphics will look pretty similar but price wise the 360 is much better. Sony are charging so much more just for a blue ray player. So go out right now and buy a 360! =)

PS3.
Since PS3 is owned by Sony and BLUray is Sony’s next high definition storage medium, the PS3 games will be stored on the BLUray discs which hold approximately 54 gigs. The Xbox 360 games will be stored on Double Layer DVDs which store 9 gigs. Obviously the BLUray discs can store a lot more data, but at the current stage of game development, any game developed will fit just as well on the 9 gig DVDs, so this is not a major factor but one that may come into play later on.
For more info on this see my website.

I have the PS3 and I think its the best gaming system out right now. It just came out so theres not that many games out for it but give it some time and it'll take the top ranks like the Sony Playstation line always has. It has a faster processor, more memory, a blue-ray disc player, better graphics, and alot more options to it than any other system out right now. I have to admit that its a little pricey but its well worth the money. I definetly suggest the PS3.

The Xbox360, its cheaper, it has better games(halo, grand theft auto, and many good shoot em ups and racing etc.)It has better multiplayer capabilities, its HDDVD is the same as Sonys Blu ray,it looks way cooler(you can buy awesome faceplates) and the graphics are the same! It's common sense...
