Just about every baby born has made odd sounds. The cooing isn't always the way parents picture it to be. When my son was a newborn his cry sounded like donald the ducks laugh in a way..lol.

I think it is worth checking out. Just the other night my son started doing something similar, almost like he was gasping for air, but making noise while doing it... it lasted a few minutes and I could see that he was breathing fine, and he would smile too, so I figured maybe he just learned to make a new sound... But he woke himself up doing it and that bothered me, so I made an appt for him and sure enough he has RSV... he wasn't showing any symptoms of a cold (runny nose, cough) but it somehow it made it into his lungs. Now he is on breathing treatments 3x a day... Thank god we caught it early enough, he is doing lots better. Please make an appt for her, better to be safe than sorry, right?

Goat noises? :) It could be gas, it could just be his experimenting with his ability to be vocal. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, and he will probably keep on making more silly noises as he gets older!

our 5 month old has always made very strange noises, her latest since about 3 months is a growling noise which really confuses the dogs and makes us laugh when she is growling at her food

it is alright my 2 week old when she is grunting sounds like a pig...lol. all my kids made different grunting sounds as babies.
not sure how true it is but i was told they do this to help clear out their lungs from the fluid from birth. also grunting and cooing is their way of "talking".

Babies grunt and do all sorts of things. I dont think he is sick if you are worried about that. We have has so many kids in this family and each had thier own sounds.

My nephews used to sound like squirrels. My son sounds like a dinosaur. I think they're just experimenting with sound.

my son made those sounds during his first month. We used to call him goat boy. He has since replaced these sounds with babbling.

Yes ..perfectly normal ...the child is trying to communicate...feed him for God sake...he's hungry.
p.s. Don't grunt back or he could be like that for the rest of his life...only joking...
