Ian Michael Smith played Simon Birch. He hasn't appeared in any other films that I know of, and, as of 2005, was a student at MIT.

I disliked the movie. "Simon Birch" is an adaptation of A Prayer for Owen Meany, by John Irving. The book is incredible, and the movie is a very bad adaptation of it. (Incidentally, John Irving would allow neither the name "Owen Meany," nor the title "A Prayer for Owen Meany," to be used in connection with the movie. I think he smartly concluded that the book could not possibly be adapted well for a movie.) I'm not saying the movie is bad in a vacuum, I suppose that's all personal taste anyhow, but contrasted to the book that inspired it it simply doesn't stand a chance. If you enjoyed the story, I really recommend you read the book -- it's amazing.

I agree with the previous responder...I felt that the movie was a little too self-deprecating and didn't include the courageous, enthusiastic nature of the original character in the book..but it was a decent flick.
