she really is like a mother to me, we have a pretty good relationship. and she treats me like her own daughter, not like a step daughter. my older brother (19), me (17), and sister (14)call her "Kate", and my little brothers (twins, 12), and little sisters (9 and twins, age 7) call her mom. her 3 little boys and daughter call my dad "dad", and her oldest daughter calls him "david". i was just wondering if i should starts calling her "mom" too. i've almost done it a couple times, but caught myself right before it came out. thoughts?

You should go up to her and say "Can I call you Mom?" She will feel very honored.

Sorry about your mom. But I think it's great that you have a good relationship with your step mom. I think that is a personal choice and as a step mom i'm sure it would really make her day. She loves you and treats you like her own so she already thinks of you that way. It sounds to me like you are pretty comfortable with calling her mom. I'm sure your other mom would be happy to see that you are so well cared for and loved. Good Luck!!!

Yes, you should. Especially since she's good to you. And that would build a strong relationship between you and her. You can ask her before, if she would like you calling her mom. But I suggest you just go ahead and call her that...it's the most wonderful word.

Go with what feels comfortable for you. Ask her if she'd mind if you called her "mom." Your siblings may feel the same way you do , but out of respect for your real mom they may feel like it's a betrayal. Your real mom is your "mom" and if you call "Kate" mom doesn't mean you love your biological mom any less. Do what's right for you.

i also have a stepmom, and calling her mom was weird the first time, but you have to do what makes you feel comfortable.I'm sure your mom would not be bothered if she knew that your stepmom treated you like her own daughter, but as I said you have to do what is right and comfortable for you.My stepmom is alive as where my dad passed away 2 years ago and I still talk to her everyday, sometimes step-parents understand how you are feeling better than your own parents.

It seems as if you're comfortable with it and I'm sure she'll appreciate it and love you so much for it.
However, check with your older brother and younger sister (14) first. They may not feel comfortable but may then feel obliged to call her that too.
You sure have a lot of sibling by the way!

If you want to call her mom, I say go right ahead. I do not see anything wrong with it. If you are both comfortable with it then I don't see a problem with it. :) I think it is fabulous you have such a wonderful relationship with your step mother.

I say you just let it slip out naturally. Im sure she would be very exited to know that you look to her like a mom. I know If I had that relationship with my stepchildren it would make me very proud to be called mom by them.

Only if that feels good and comfortable to you. There's certainly nothing wrong with it and I'm sure she would be flattered. The only reservation I would have is would it hurt your mom's feelings? Only you would know that answer, but it's worth considering.
