generally because they need more storage, I usally go for best price not brand name, seagate is popular though and price = size

They last much longer these days and are extremely cheap too.
Usually people replace them to get more storage room. I have an 80Gig drive and sometimes I feel I need more. I think I've filled over half of it.
My first computer had a 5Meg drive and I thought I was in heaven. Nowadays you can't even load the operating system on a drive that small.
Search for hard drives or just go to CompUSA or CircuitCity. Most drives are good enough for most needs. Seagate and Maxtor are well known brands.
