Doubtful. More likely it's an aesthetic rule IF it is true.
Although come to think of it, underwear does tend to wear out in areas that make one think some sort of acid interaction is occurring...

Damages the spacesuit you mean? Oh, I know. The suit has an odor sensitive formula integrated in its material so the wearer can be alerted at once to the presence of extra-terrestrials. The odor of fart seems to exceed its safer limits.
I'm sure our brightest scientists are working on the problem, which now revolves around the limit between ETs and human odor, which not mentioning actual waste, can be quite cumulative even after several days without a shower or bath.
They need volunteers though.

Study NASA a little. It is a traditional meal for the astronauts to eat Hot dogs and beans the night before a launch. They do it for all the Shuttle missions. I do not know how much farther it goes back beyond that. But that is not in any rule book for NASA.

here is something that i found. i doubt that they are prohibited from eating beans though, since there are so many different foods that can cause flatulence.
"For astronauts, going to the bathroom has an entirely different meaning.
In a microgravity environment, flatulence, which contains flammable gases, like hydrogen and firedamp, can more easily ignite.
An astronauts can be blown away by his or her own intestinal gas, which can also pollute the air inside space capsules, according to Li Tanqiu, an aerospace expert."

Eating beans causes you to fart.
Farts in low gravity explode into purple flames.

I don't think it matters what you eat. That kind of pressure on your body, when you take off. That alone will cause something to happen. Ya think?
