The shrew is Kate, cause she is a fiery spirit that wants to live her own life. Everyone else feels the need to try and tame her.

Katrina is the shrew. A shrew is a slightly more polite (and more archaic) version of the word b*tch. And she kind of acts like one, at least in the beginning of the play. It's called The Taming of the Shrew, because someone has to get her to submit to marriage in order for her younger sister to marry the man she loves.

Kate is the shrew. Because of the way she treated everyone. She fell in love with her husband Petruchio because she couldn't stop him from being a man, and realized that when she was willing to change, he would too.

surprisingly, its actually the widow in the end.
kate was tamed, yet she knew she shouldnt let petruchio take over her...
but, in the end, the widow turns out to be the shrewest of all which is what is stated in act 5 scene i:

BAPTISTA:
Now, in good sadness, son Petruchio,
I think thou hast the veriest shrew of all.

PETRUCHIO:
Well, I say no; and therefore, for assurance,
Let's each one send unto his wife,
And he whose wife is most obedient,
To come at first when he doth send for her,
Shall win the wager which we will propose.

(petruchios wife- katherine comes out before the widow making the widow the shrewest.)

it is also said that petruchio was the shrew. not only because of his character discription but because of his arrogance. and that he was tamed by falling in love with katherine.

I think it's painfully obvious you have not read that play. Because if you had, you wouldn't need to ask that question.
