No, you should not get rid of the Royal Family. What justification would there be for getting rid of them? What many close-minded people don't seem to understand is that a nation or an institution is only as strong as its traditions. Yes, the Queen is no longer the single, absolute ruler of the United Kingdom; however, she is the head of state. Also, as of 1994, the Royal Family pays taxes, so they're not an economic burden. They also raise tons of money through tourism every year. Although some of them have not been the best examples of what Briton stands for, the newest generation has. Both the royal princes have decided to serve their country as officers in the Army. Harry is on his way to Iraq as we speak. With their money and influence, they could easily avoid any sort of service, but because of their good breeding, they understand the importance of the nobless obligee.
Don't jump the gun into destroying your nation's traditions. Just take a look at any organization that has done so--it quickly becomes emasculated. GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!

No The Monarchy has a vital role of safe guarding Britain from dictatorship. The very idea of President Blair gives me nightmares just look at America a Republic is not so great as people think. I also like the pomp and ceremony its a part of our national heritage and adds colour to this island. Royalty also brings in money more than it takes destroying the common myth of Republicans. Also the Monarch is brought up for the role and has a lifetime of experience Her Majesty is well informed on international affairs and well respected by many. It concerns me what this government is doing to this country and how is giving our sovereignty away to Brussels i sometimes wish she would dissolve Parliament in my mind its treason. So i say long may she reign! God Bless The Queen!

They are a link to our heritage, a constant prescence through the high times and the low. They are the key stone of why Britain is seen by other nationalities as something with society, class and high standards in our society.
If we got rid of them, the palaces would become a drain on public resources, we'd lose billions of £££'s every year in tourism revenues, the politicans would squander the wealth generated by a sell off in one big vote winning splurge and we'd become a rather small, insignificant republic on the outer edges of a very large continent with some very large republics.
They are also a vital link in our political scene, because they are not affiliated with any particluar party they can act as the 'PR department' of the country. Many Prime Ministers past and present have admitted that information given to them about people they are due to meet has saved negotiations and solved many of our problems before they've begun. John Major, a big cricket fan used the metaphor that the Royals keep Britain batting much higher up the order than we otherwise would be able to.
Can anyone stand to think of having President Blair, makes me shudder.

As an American, I envy the Brit's for their royalty. The history, the pomp and circumstance and customs associated with royalty is something they can be proud of. British history especially in regards to royalty is very interesting .
As far as getting rid of the royal family, why should they. The amount of tourism generated by the castles, the changing of the guard , the museums to which royals have donated works of art brings in millions each year.
So I say long live the Queen, he descendants and all that they stand for.

If you are talking about the British Royal Family, the answer is NO! They generate millions of Pounds each year from tourism alone. What will happen when the Queen dies may be the end of the Monarchy if "if I'd love to live in your knickers' succeeds ER2/ A better chance might be William, certainly not Harry in his Nazi Uniform strung out on booze and/or pot.

Britain got rid of the monarchy once, and nobody liked the result. So they were invited back, and that has worked quite well. Any other head of state would cost quite as much to maintain, and wouldn't be a tourist attraction. This debate has gone on for centuries, and they are still here.
What would you replace the head of state with? President-for-life Bush?

We must keep them.
Think of all the upheaval and rebuilding. All the palaces would have to be changed into apartment buildings, or shopping centres. And what a waste of clothing. Think of all those red coats and furry hats that the guards wear. And whose face would we put on the stamps? Oh, it would be all just too complicated!

They ARE a source of entertainment!
I want Australia to be a Republic though! :( I voted YES!
I just wish Australians weren't always so damn lazy in voting...it's always the same thing..."I'm fine with how things are now, why change it?" That's why we've still got fkn Johnny fking us around! Or not looking into how our Government wasn't going to be ANYTHING like the US...which is what everyone thought!
Anyway...I digress....
Yeah, keep em...why not?
