As much I know both Pentium D and Core 2 Duo are with dual-core and Pentium D is 3 ghz and 2*2 MB of cache and Core 2 Duo comes with 2.1 ghz and 2 MB of cache. So Pentium D is better but others tell me to go for Core 2 Duo as it is latest. Please guide me for the best. Tell meonly from the above two models of procesors.

Core 2 DUO E6400 is slightly more powerful than the Intel Pentium D 925 or 930.

Under PC Mark 2005 the E6400 scores :
5489.

The D 940 (there was no 930 to compare) scores:
5347.

There are many other benchmarks you can use to judge them at :

look at it like this instead. I have several computers that are very aged.....but there is one thing about them that enables me to continue using them productively - They are dual-CPU computers not single cpu computers. I have a dual PII 300, a dual PII 400, a dual AMD MP1200, and a dual PIV 2000. I still use the dual PII300 to run W2K server and it is very very quick, the reason? because of the dual CPU's, even though the computer is over 10 years old, it still has the power to do a great job. I also have a PIII500, I compare the power and speed of the PIII 500 to the dual PII300 and the dual PII300 CPU is far far more powerful than the PIII 500. two is always better than one in computers, go for the core 2 duo. and here is the proof you really need, the dual AMD MP 1200's I have which are more than 6 years old already are very capable of running windows Vista even today despite what MSFT says about 3.2 hrtz speed requirement. Vista runs just fine on my dual MP 1200 as well as the dual P4 2000 CPU.

The amount of cache on the Pentium D you describe versus the cache on the core 2 duo will not be something you have to worry about, they are both plenty. my dual AMD MP 1200's only have 384 kb cache and I am a very very demanding multi tasker and require all my computers to even be able to run multimedia as well as gaming.

You are better served by spending your money on the core 2 duo !!!

Core duo is faster and will give you more longevity. Programs will increasingly rely on and utilize both cores making it faster in the future too.

Go with an XBOX 360 or a PS 3. They are so much more fun and you can use them as a high quality computer. Trust me you cant beat that.
