14 is not "too late" to start en pointe for a serious student. You should already have a solid technique since you are beginning your pointe work. Becoming a professional dancer requires many things, not just how long you have been en pointe. In order to be picked up by a professional company you must have a natural talent that they are looking for, you must have to body shape and size that they need (no one likes to talk about this, but, yes, they will only take dancers with the certain height and weight they want to match the rest of the corps), you must have exceptional technique and form en pointe and off. You will most likely start off in the corps de ballet (and work there for several years) before being advanced to soloist (if you are lucky enough to have the talent needed for that). Of course through the years there have been dancers that "break the mold" and their natural talent and ability are so incredible they are instant stars! Definitely the exception.
So keep working hard! You aren't too old yet! And if you are serious about a career, start looking at different summer intensives for professional ballet companies for next summer (after you've been en pointe for a year), then you should get serious about auditioning for a ballet school that is incorporated with a professional company--it's the best way to get your foot in the door.

To be a pro, and make a living off of ballet. You have to start very young. 3-5 years old about. And you need to be taught by someone with a lot of experience. And practice all the time. It takes a huge amount of passion. To be en pointe you should first take ballet classes for about 5-8 years. My studio offers pointe classes starting at age 10 and only if the person passes an audition for it. You need amazing strength in you ankles and very good technique. If you try to teach yourself, or go en pointe before you're ready, you could hurt yourself very bad. It isn't as easy as it looks. But if you've had the experience, talk to your teacher about it first. She should know if you're ready. Don't have a teacher, get one!! Take some classes. You'll start with soft shoes, but you'll get en pointe if you stick with it! If you've never taken ballet before, then it's most likely too late to become pro. But you can still get amazingly far with it!!! Don't let anything stop you! Reach for the moon...and if you fall, you might still catch a star.

If you really want to be a professional (like be in a company and make a living off of ballet), it might be a little too late. Most professionals start studying ballet very young, and are usually on pointe around age 11. (But there are always exceptions -- look at Misty Copeland. She only started dancing at 13, and is now dancing with ABT).
The most important thing, however, isn't your age; it's whether or not you have enough training and whether or not you're physically prepared. You should have been dancing for at least a few years, and your body/skeleton and stuff is probably developed enough for you to start dancing on pointe.

No way. What year are you in (grade) 9? 10?
Adlong as you have done some ballet you cna be a pro dancer. Every kind of dancer needs to have done ballet before, even if you do not want to focus on daing. Ask your dance teacher, they will give you an honest opinion.
Practise hard, be dedicated and make sure it is truly what you want to do.
HAve you done ballet for a while? I must warn you that you cant just start and move straight on to pointe shoes, they take much techinical training of the ankles.
Good luck!

It depends a lot on how much ballet you've done before this. 14 is a good age to start pointe if you already have a ballet background, since you will then have the technique and the physical development. As for getting serious, it's never too late, and becoming a professionnal is a much more complex question.

I personally don't dance ballet, but I do know that A lot of good dance schools wont put dancers in pointe shoes until they're atleast 12. That's when their feet are fully developed.
As long as you practice, 14 is not too late!

It's definately not to late. Only russian school pust ballerina en pointe at the age of 8! A lot more important than age itself is your pre-knowledge of ballet and motorical movement in general. Best of luck!
