I was not on Honeymoon I was working there.
I can recommend the Rasa Sayang Hotel on Penang. It is a wonderful resort hotel on the beach. Many people have there wedding receptions there.
In my opinion this is by far the best place to stay in Malaysia.
The food is fantastic every different style. I really cant recomend it highly enough.
It might be quite a bit more expensive than the others but believe me you are getting great value as it is so far above everywhere else in terms of facilities.
There is a slightly cheaper one next door which is part of the same group.
Try the Tai Chi lessons with Master Wan in the mornings. He is a real Tai Chi Master
Am am not associated with the Hotel in any way.
I hope to be going there again very soon.

I'm not married, so I can't really give you opinion from a honeymooner point of view. But malaysia has a lot of good things to consider, be it wonderful, attractive beaches, shopping heaven and oldest rainforest. Pangkor Laut for instance, is a very nice sub-island, once labeled by Pavarotti as heaven on earth (something like that). The YTL resort is a nice place for honeymooners who'll enjoy their stay. You might also want to go to Karambunai in Sabah, with serene environment and stunning white-sand beach. try to surf for these places on the net. As for places to stay, most premier status resorts and hotels are available in malaysia.
If you want to spend time shopping, blending in with the rich culture of malaysia or just want to try the extensive array of malaysian food, then pick KL. Not saying that all the best food are there, but it's the place where you can get almost all malaysian delicacies without having to go to the place of origin(if you get what i mean). KL is happening and lively, suiting its name as the capital city of malaysia.
all in all, come here and experience it. I believe you'll find it enticing.

There are plenty of nice places to go in Malaysia,Depends on what you like to do really.
the best Place to stay in Langkawi would be Four Seasons its beautiful villas ,massages and superb hospitality. And they also have a great honeymoon package and private beach, its pretty secluded though suitable for those who wants to have quiet honeymoon.
The Islamic enforcements will not arrest non moslems as syariah law that prohibit non married couples to sleep together only implies to Malaysian Moslems .So far no record of tourist being forced to convert or change religion againts their will.
The best hotels in Kuala Lumpur would be Mandarin Oriental thats situated next to the twin tower or Sheraton imperial

Depending on your budget and preferences, Malaysia has it all the way. If sun & sand are your cup of tea, you can go to the islands (Langkawi: e.g. Tanjung Rhu Resort, Penang: e.g. Lone Pine Resort, Pangkor: e.g. Pangkor Laut Resort, Tioman: Berjaya Tioman Resort). If it is heritage, then go to the historical cities (Georgetown: e.g. Shangri-la, Malacca: e.g. Renaissance). If it is nature, then go into Taman Negara, explore Mulu Caves, climb Mt Kinabalu... etc.
For an affordable holiday and honeymoon combining a little of everything (if you have the time), I suggest you first head for cool Cameron Highlands (Ye Olde Smokehouse), come down to food-loving Ipoh (Syuen Hotel), go north to vintage Penang (City Bayview Hotel). Stay a few days because you get a mix of everything Asian & European here. Then relax your last few days by the beach in Langkawi (Tanjung Rhu Resort) returning to Kuala Lumpur for the last minute shopping before flying home.
Your partner would love this!

Malaysia is nice, but I find that the service here isn't up to standards for a honeymoon. The staff are generally lackluster and seem to feign courtesy in general. Langkawi is quite nice, but again, even staying at a 5 star hotel, the service left quite a bit to be desired. I've stayed at Andaman Langkawi and The Datai, and they were very nice hotels, but it all came down to how the staff made me feel and how apt they were to jump through hoops to appease the guests, and they failed on both accounts. As someone paying 2000+RM a night I expected FAR better service.
Have you thought of giving Thailand a try, like Phuket? Somewhere like the Banyan Tree or Andaman resorts at Bang Tao Beach, or Amanpuri that is on the point between Bang Tao and Pansea beaches is very nice, and the staff are hands down the best I've had in the world. I stayed at Amanpuri for my honeymoon and it was heaven on earth. Also the availability of attractions is quite nice. Just some food for thought.

We stayed at the Corus Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. It is a 4 star hotel and we only paid about 50/night. Almost everything was within walking distance, and it is directly across the street from the Petronas Towers. We hired a tour guide/driver for one day and he took us all over the city. It is a great place rich in cultural experience. It would be a shame to travel that far just to hang out on the beach.

Once, my sister and her husband went to a nice beach hotel called the Pangkor Laut Resort in Pangkor Island. Then they mentioned that they were on a honeymoon. Next thing they knew, their rooms were upgraded and they a candle-lit dinner by the sea were thrown in. How thoughtful of them, I thought. You can check this hotel out if you want.

Would recommend Langkawi also and particularly, the Sheraton Perdana, it's very reasonable as well. The views over the Andaman sea at night are lovely. We weren't on honeymoon but felt like we were!Have a lovely time wherever you go.
