All work places have to abide by the HASWA Act. This is the Health and Safety at Work Act which is there to safeguard employees and employers. Any hazards that may endanger people or are potentially dangerous must be assessed in what is classed as a Risk Assessment document which tells you what the problem may be and how to minimise the risk. (and what to do in an emergency)This must be kept on the premises as it is a legal document. in all workplaces this sign must be displayed.
'RIDDOR' is the reporting of injuries dangerous occurances regulations which must be filled in when an accident occurs so the approraite athotity can use this information to reduce the likely hood of the problem occuring again and carry out an up to date risk assessment on the problem.
COSHH control of substances hazardous to health. This is a sign that is normally found in a cupboard which stores chemicals. It lists the product i.e bleach and shows you what to do in the event of say a spilage or chemical burn. Also these products will be in the risk assessment documents that are done by managerment.
if you have a look around the internet you will find lots of acts and regulations to do with accidents in the workplace. hope this helps.

fire- first you announce the fire 3 times overhead. grab a fire extinguisher find the fire and put it out by using sweeping motion at the base of the fire. (other employees are checking each room and securing by closing door after evacuating patient). the fire alarm is already triggered by the smoke and the fire dept usually shows up moments later to take over. at home you would get out of your house, call 911. a small fire may be extinguished.
Heimlich- choking. if a person is choking and can still cough. you encourage that person to keep coughing. if the person is turning blue and cannot cough or talk get behind that person, wrap your arms around the waist and make a fist with one hand and clasped the fisted hand with the other hand just above the belly button. give abdominal thrust (quick inward thrust to dislodge the object) until the object is dislodge or the person collapses. the person will collapse after a period without oxygen. after the person has fell or brought to the floor, (call 911) check the mouth for the object. (the object might have been dislodged from the fall). no object in the mouth? continue the abdominal thrust by straddling the victim and placing crossed hands just above the belly button. then give abdominal thrust (5) then do a mouth sweep. do this until the object comes up.
if you are alone and are choking find something that is waist high and throw yourself onto the object, such as a chair or a countertop/table. the force of the object just above the belly button will force the object out of your throat.

A person could pass out. lay the person on the floor, put something under his head. listen to his mouth for air and try speaking to see if you get a response. Have some one call 911, You in the mean time start CPR if you have no results from him.Don't forget to lift up on his neck so his air ways will open. If you know for sure he passed out becasue he was choking on something, do the hymelic .

What do you mean by emergencies? Medical emergencies or is it a risk assessment that you need to do (i.e. working at height, slips, trips and falls, fire risk, risk of suffocation etc)
