and once it gets slow enough it sounds like it is vibrating. so what might be the cause of this? is it because i replaced the hard drive 6 months ago?

Its most likely your fan spinning not your hard drive clean the fan with a vac

Stop imagining things, when you computer shuts down your harddrive wont have any power.... LOL!!! if it is infact spinning then it means that the power is still passing to the HDD and your computer is not shutting down... try to disconnect the power lead...

its vibrating? Which websites do you usually go to on your computer? LOL!!!!!

Never seen something like that... may be its time you replace your computer....

Nothing to worry about it the HD drive creates sound as it grows old!
If it is very much annoying u can purchase soundproof box case for ur drive which r avialable in the markets!

Are you sure it is the hard drive and not the CD-ROM?
If you have a cd in the cd-rom it may well be that.

I have some computers with very old hard drives and am yet to hear a hard drive.
