6 months is the average age, but my daughter started when she was 3 1/2 months, and my niece waited until she was 8 1/2 for her first. It can very vastly with each child.

I read somewhere the average age for a baby to get it's first teeth is 7 months. I read in the same place the teething process can begin at about 3 months and go on for months without any teeth coming through.

Oh my, what is normal for babies?!? Each baby is different and some babies are born with teeth while others might not get any until they are a year old! You will know your baby is starting to teethe because at first the gums will get very soft, and he/she will be drooling a lot. As the tooth gets closer to the surface, the gums will get firmer and your baby may become very fussy due to the pain. Just so you know, Orajel is no longer reccomended to give to your baby, there have been too many incidences of babies choking due to the fact that it numbs their throat. Try a cold washcloth, some tylenol, teething rings, and gentle massage if you think your baby is teething.

I don't think there is a "normal" time, per say... Yesterday on here, someone said their son was born with four teeth. I know my daughter got her first tooth at 4 1/2 months. Others, though, won't get their first tooth until they are closer to a year old. I think it varies from baby to baby. I know this isn't much help, but it is the best answer I can give you.

Every baby is different, some are born with teeth others get them at 1 yr. Average is 6-9 mths when the firts one appears and goes from there. If they are late getting them they are late in losing them and vice versa.
