if you can, avoid bolting into the tree. distance less than 20 feet run double 2 x 12's with plywood flitch plates as foundation beams ( these can also be lashed to the tree with steel cable & used tires- cushion to avoid damaging tree ), run joist off of that with joist hangers, then floor it & come up with walls & roof, if hot climate side it with cool ply/techshield & vetilate floor & roof, & it will be comfortable in summer.

I recall seeing it done by suspending on ropes...interesting idea. This would allow for tree growth and movement do to wind etc.etc. I'm not up on how you would engineer it, but I would think some precautions to protect the tree bark from damage would be a good idea.

I know that all brackets have to be moveable because the trees have to move. Try going to Treehouses.com.
