i am using windows xp can i convert fat32 to ntfs without data loss ?what are the steps ?is it necessary?

Yes, you can convert FAT32 to NTFS without data loss, you cannot revert back though, the benefits are: better support for large disks, improved security features, less problems with fragmentation and because it is a journaling filesystem data integrity is better maintained. To convert your hard rive to NTFS (assuming your hard drive is C), click Start, select Run, type the following:

CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS

and click OK
