First of all u should haven't lost ur CD!
But now only thing u can do is buy a new OS, it'll come with key included coz every WinXP OS has a unique key! After installation u'll need an internet connection to activate ur copy! One copy when activated with a system can be re-activated on that system ne no. of times but it can't be activated on another system for next 6 months from date of activation so ur friends' OS CD might not help if they've installed it within past 6 months!
Regarding prices---->
Win XP home-- INR 3500 approx.
Win XP professional-- INR 6300 approx.
Or u can go for pirated versions which I don't suggest!Which u can get of INR 40 to INR 50 from ne Software seller!
If u feel the info useful!Do rate & chose this answer as best!
Do add me to ur contact list for further contacts if u want!
Take care!
Bye!

You can 'see' Windows components in C;\Windows.
Windows program (like any other installed program) can not be copied to a CD as a file that can be reinstalled, you only see (or copy) the files the install made.
Activation codes are different for each copy of Windows so you will need a legal copy of the Windows XP CD.
Sorry, what you are attempting to do will not work.

You cannot copy your operating system from the computer to a cd, you would have to have the cd to make a copy. You will not find your operating system in the add or delete either. You will have to re-purchase the XP operating system or get one from a friend, but that still leaves you needing the Key, which if you don't have, will be difficult to locate. Good luck.

If you have a legal copy of XP then you should have the disc as well. f you are running a pirat as many do it is not easy to do much other than use it. If you bought the computer and it did not have the disc then most likely you have a pirat program.
Every MS-XP OS program is numbered and no two have the same number.

Its very sad that u have lost the windows xp sp2 CD-ROM.
Its not possible to add/ remove any installed opereting system software from control panel of your system...control panel only provides the facility of installing or uninstalling program packages in windows environment..ok..
so nobody in the world can see "windows xp sp2" in the control panel add/ remove program list..
You seem to be a new windows user...
any way if u have got the copy of your windows xp sp2 while buying your pc then ..the cd key/ lisence no is located at the bottom cover of your pc if it is a laptop..or behind pc casing if it is a desktop pc..
windows xp sp2 is not copiable in blank CD from your pc's hard disk..
if your copy of win xp CD is a genuine one (with edge to edge hologram) ,bought directly from microsoft via online order then u have the luxury of microsoft 's "genuine advantage validation pass" and u can contact to microsoft via online and request for a new win xp cd -rom and if possible they can send u the original license no. and a cd if possible..
if the copy of your CD-ROM came with purchase of your pc then contact the service provider of that pc shop with all your documents of purchase and request them to copy a " win xp sp2" CD in blank cd-rom with the minimum amount of service charge if not no-charge..
you can buy a newcopy of win xp sp2 cd with a different lisence key,if u need to reinstall/upgrade your operating system.. it will cost u some dollars...
you cann't copy "win xpsp2" in blank cd from your pc's hard disk but cd key is recoverable..from your pc..
download and install "tune up utilites 2007" (30days trial)
run "Tune Up Utilities 2007"
click "continue testing"
click " customize analize"
click "Tune up system information"
click "windows" tab of dialog box
under "license" heading u will find your user name, company, product key (win xp's cd key) and any information about your system you want..
Hope this will help to retrieve your win xp sp2's license key that you have lost unfortunately.. Good luck..thanking you..
