Duke's Jay Williams made famous the "floor slapping". When you slap the floor, each and every player has to mean it, has to commit to playing defense at a higher level.

It pumps up the crowd. Bobby Hurley is the one who started it. It doesn't signify anything. Why? Would you rather have them do the same stupid jump and bump move every teams does? Just another Duke hater looking for any reason to crap on an up-standing program.

The need to D up. Duke players aren't the only players that do it. I've seen some other players "commit" to defense the same way.

That is a common thing taught in a lot of programs. Its meant as a reminder to keep yourself low on defense....we were taught it on my highschool team, although it does look pretty stupid
