If you don't know what the notes are supposed to sound like, tuning by ear isn't going to work. Intellitouch tuners are easy to use and weigh less than 2 ounces.

A tuning fork will always work. I have seen belt buckles and other strange things with metal tuners built into or stored in many places.
Get one in E,G,B,D,f,A,c,, then you are pretty much set.

you can tune your guitar by ear. That's pretty light. Hold down the fifth fret and play it and the string below. Adjust until they sound the same note. on the third bottom string, hold the forth fret (to tune the second bottom string), then go back to the fifth fret again to tune the bottom string.
Play some chords to check if it sounds right.

i got one of those Sabine tuners(AX2000-W) that sticks on the body and it works great,, about the size or a credit card, weighs nada, cost around 45 USD
