Well, considering one of our nuke plants at 3 Mile Island has only had one leak in all the years it's been in operation is sort of a testament to alternative energy.
The only time they had an issue was when there was a waste-water leak and it didn't take them long to clean it up. No, France isn't making a mistake unless they employ a bunch of butt-heads to run the plants. My nephews father-in-law used to 'start them up' for a living and the man had a masters degree and a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He could spot a problem in a heartbeat.
When they employ good people who actually know what they're doing, which comes with experience...there shouldn't be a problem. Biggest was with Russia and the Chernobyl meltdown and explosion. They had a reactor leak that went unchecked and it wasn't shut down soon enough. It takes time and total concentration when people work in these places. Some do not realize that a reactor core is the same as handling a nuclear weapon. The water is what cools the core. Let the leaks ride and the core temperature rise without shutting down, and it creates a melt-down right through the floor of the plant; then all that's left is to put your head between your knees and kiss you butt good-bye.

In the post cold war 1980s when all nuclear activity worldwide was dropping, France continued investing. They have been getting 75% from nuclear energy ever since and it's only now that anyone cares because they were right all along to reduce their dependency on fossil fuels.
I don't believe everyone should get their energy from nuclear, we should diversify and the first thing you should remember about the French - They don't care what anyone else thinks anyway!

France is a foreign country; the Dems are Americans, hence they're supposed to care solely about American issues..not that either end of the political spectrum really gives a rat's @ss about anything but lining their pockets..

This issue has nothing to do with "Dems" or liberals. I am not a "Dem" and I do not support nuclear power for several reasons. First is is very uneconomical. ALL of the US nukes were built with Fedl money. That is never taken into account by pro-nuke groups when they say how cheap nuclear power is. This is all about making money for pro-nuke groups who bribe our elected officials.

The liberals want the issue not to solve the issue. That's why drilling and nuclear energy are off the table.

As a Democrat, I don't think about France that much at all, to be honest.
I'm an American. I'm more concerned with what happens here. I'm of the opinion that we have no right to hold ourselves out as some global example of excellence unless we have the goods to back it up.
