Why do some women act like they are incompetent and stupid, even if they are actually intelligent?

because we have these false ideas about possible roles for women in our society (US.) attractive girls don't need to be smart, only ugly girls need to be smart. this has grown into an internalized concept that being intelligent is unattractive. not many people actually come out and say that, but many girls operate on this concept. It surrounds them in advertisements and magazines and television and movies: successful women are beautiful first, everything else is secondary.

Because someone orr something made them feel stupid either that or they ike acting that way its one or the other. Sometimes women act stupid just to stroke a mans confidence, which is actually a bad idea because u can forget ur acting or not be respected or liked if the guy actually thinks ur stupid

Probably the same reason some men do it. I have a brother-in-law like that, he acts like he can't do anything so that everyone will do it for him, from his wife, to his brother, to his parents, even though he is quite intelligent. I think he just never grew up. Those women are probably the same.

No - just joking - it's conditioning like the answerer above said. I think intelligent men find it very unattractive but there are also a lot of men that are threatened by attractive intelligent women. I find men like this and women who act stupid when they are not equally irritating.

They think that feminine passivity is the key to romance. (Maybe they've been reading "The Surrendered Single" too much.) In reality, more and more men appreciate strong women these days.

My best guess is that they've learned that it is somehow sexy.
Men are probably attracted to stupidity because it's safe and unthreatening. And let's face it - there are a lot of men who are intimidated by smart women, and who crave "simple" women - "simple" being a code for "doesn't talk a lot, knows her place, etc."

You need to ask? Women , NO MATTER WHO THEY ARE, will use their femininity to get anywhere they go if they need it and no matter how much a male knows this , he will keep giving into a clevege or a pelvis until the cows come home.
