Buy yourself a copy of Micro Mart it is only £2 in there you will find a number of companies advertising laptops. There are some excellent bargains in reconditioned laptops some carrying a full twelve month warranty. You don't say what you want it for, if it's just for web access, music and college work then you don't need an expensive one. However if you intend to play the latest games you may struggle with your budget. Hope this helps.

Having used a IBM Thinkpad R40 for a number of years they are very rugged and reliable. Although these are quite old now they work well. It all depends on the spec you want and performance. The IBM has a reasonable spec and performs all the tasks I need from a Laptop. You can pick them up on ebay for under £200.00

Go for a HP NX range laptop. They were reviewed at 5 stars in most of the reviews I've seen, plus I owned one and loved it. They are solid and rugged builds, anti-shock protection for your hard disc, integrated wireless with an extremely stable platform for most types of personal computing. I even used mine for producing music on my coursework when my main workstation died and it actually managed to hold on reasonably well. My friends are mostly programming and network geeks and they also loved it. You can't go a miss with an HP :D
