I have a nubian goat which we are currently milking. I would like something to use to get rid of the lice without effecting the milk taste/production. I have heard that seven dust can do the trick, but not sure. Any suggestions?

Only serious answers please, thanks

Lice on goats are very common this time of year but not difficult to get rid of. Sevin dust works great and fast, and will not affect the milk. Ivomec injectable for cattle also works great (administered orally for goats), but there is a milk withdrawal time for that so probably not the best choice for you at this time.

Farm n' Fleet sells a great lice powder for livestock and poultry. You just sprinkle it over the body and then rub the hair so the powder gets down to the skin. It shouldn't have any effect on the milk taste or production.

Most wormer also rid goats of lice. It's very common for them to have lice. Go to your local feed store and get some goat wormer. I use shots on mine, It seems to work best. You can get the shots or paste at the feed store or from your vet. The lice that suck the blood can cause anemia in goats... which can be deadly for them. Good Luck!!
