I'll be more clear - all of that stuff from XFactor etc is universal crap so I didn't bother listing it. I don't like Oasis was because they make music that sounds the same as it did a decade ago and they are arrogant. I don't like Coldplay because Chris Martin has a whiney voice and isn't a good lyricist.
I like music by the Fratellis, Arcade Fire, the Black Keys, Bloc Party, Bobbie Gentry, The Clash, the Specials, the Klaxons.
It's OK if you don't like these people, but the people I listed as rubbish are liked usually by people that have no diserning taste in music at all.

I would love to know the true answer to this myself. Although in my experience, people with bad taste in music very often have bad taste in pretty much everything else !

I think most of those are OK in limited quantites (RocknRoll Star , Champagne Supernova, Clocks etc) , but if everyone liked the same it would be boring.
The real rubbish comes from X-Factor / Pop Idol / and 90% of manufactured chart stuff

I don't think you can actually say that it's rubbish. For some people that's the music that gets them going every morning. For other people it's rock or emo. It really depends on who you are. You can't really blame a 12 year old girl for liking Avril Lavinge, and you also can't blame a person for like My Chemical Romance. You should like the music you like and leave other people to like what they want to.

Except for Keane, I am in agreement with you. Some of Keane's more recent music is better than their earlier stuff. However, if everyone liked the same music, then music wouldn't expand & there'd be no variety.

what kinda question is that?! it's been said enough times, so you should know by now that everybody has different taste and different opinions on what makes good music...you said yourself it's okay if we don't like the music you're into so why does it matter if we like mcfly or avril lavigne-I happen to love both of them.

Different people like different music, what one peson thinks of good music another person might not and vice versa. some of the music you listed as 'rubbish' are mainly aimed at teenagers who are main buyers of chart music so it seems as if most people do, but really most people seem to like a wide range of music.

what i want to say is each to their own but i know i wont get the ten points unless i agree with you so.
yes i agree its such a shame we cant all share the same taste in music. that way the world would be a much less boring place wouldn't it.!!!!
thanks for the added info. i can honestly say i have only heard of the three most popular ones of those you like so maybe thats why i dont share your taste in music.

How can you come out with such a daft statement? You need to have respect for what other people are into, same as they should respect your tastes. For the record,l liked a couple of the bands you slagged off,and i like a couple of the ones you say you like.

Who's to say what music is rubbish? It is all a matter of opinion, so what is rubbish to you may be a masterpiece to someone else. Who is anyone to judge? You sound like Simon Cowell!
