Birds fly really high in the sky, above the treetops fancy free, yet if they do it in a thunderstorm, will they get hit by lightning?

No because they can't pass on the electricity to Earth and also if they were on a treetop when there is a lightning, it is possible that they get the heat and electricity from the tree more than directly from the sky and burn up.

Sometimes they do and sometimes they dont usually the birds fly away at the sight of a storm.

yes, i think the dumber ones stand a higher chance of getting struck by lightning.

yes..and when I was a kid, the bigger birds used to get zapped by the powerlines....(swans and ducks)...I would think that is more humane tho than being sucked into planes engines.....gosh, hadn't we better cheer up, this is too sad....have a nice day anyway...

no becasue they dont have anything that will attract lightning

Unlike use our body produces radiation which attracts lightning to us... unlucky
