First of all, laying on your back does not harm your baby. That's a myth. If you're comfortable in that position, go for it.
I had the same thing and it was awful. Get yourself an egg-crate cushion that goes over your mattress. We got ours at Target. I would put pillows under my body so that I was laying on them instead of my hips. Experiment to find something confortable. Sleep with a pillow between your legs, but spread your legs so your weight is resting on the pillow. Remember, you can never have too many pillows!

I am 26 weeks and have the same problem too. At first it was awful hip pain, but I started seeing a chiropractor and physical therapist which was SO helpful. I highly recommend it. I also use the pillows between my knees but am now wondering if that is making it worse --- I might switch it up. I am normally a back sleeper and hate sleeping on my side so I'm going to ask my doctor if I can sleep on my back again. My main problem is waking up with awful hip cramps and leg cramps. So before bed and when I wake up, I do lots of hip and leg stretches. I notice my hamstrings are really tight too. Good luck, I hope this helps.

Hi there...I have started this exact thing...I'm about 25 weeks along now, and I thought It was just me. I suppose its the quickly added weight, cuz I never had issues like this before. I liked the other's answers, I do just what they say, keep switching sides every time (6-7) I wake up. I too use lots of pillows and have a pregnancy pillow too. Nothing really works, I'm just downright uncomfortable at night. One person did mention the glutes hurting cuz they are overcompensating etc.....Ya, I got that big time...In fact I had my boyfriend rub em this morning it was so bad. uGH....well 3 1/2 more months to go...If u figure a miracle fix, let me know!

Try experimenting with pillows to discover a comfortable sleeping position. Some women find that it helps to place a pillow under their abdomen or between their legs. Also, using a bunched-up pillow or rolled-up blanket at the small of your back may help to relieve some pressure. Your body is changing daily in order to get ready for delivery.

My baby is very low and my hips hurt like crazy too. Have you tried the pillow between your knees? It has seemed to help some, at least enough that I can get a little bit of rest. And I'm so close to due that some is better than none!!!

I have the same problem at 22 1/2 weeks. I put a pillow between my legs. while it's not the most comfortable thing...it helps a lot.
I will also lay on my back every once & a while...not for a long time....but I will sleep that way

I am 19 weeks and have similar problems. I have to experiment with which pillow positions work. If you are loosing sleep it is better to be comfortable then worry about if you are on your back at this point. You might want to use a pillow just under your right side to tip you slightly while on your back. Also try a pillow under your legs instead of between.

its possible you might have symphisis pubis disorder, which is where your pubic bone relaxes and softens during pregnancy and causes pain in your hip / pubic bone - you need to see if you can be referred to a physio to get assessed, if it isnt that it might just be that they can give you tips on how to lay etc..
I myself do not like taking meds unless necessary, and have a full length pillow I lay part on and part off depending on whats comfortable at the time - bought from ebay for about £15.00

Put a couple pillows between your legs that might help it did for me this way your spinal column is lined up and you aren't putting too much stress on your hip bone.
