Why do apartment communities offer those move in specials like Free 1st months rent..are they less desirable?

They don't want to risk having an empty apartment. If they give you 1 month free, it's better than having the apartment sit empty for 2 or 3 months.

You'll see that often in a buyer's market. The complex wants you to move there because you may get the first month free, but then they have a paying tenant. They are just competing for your business.

no, that just helps you get out of your current lease sometimes. Just a promotion. Maybe they are just getting started up and are offering promotions to get more tenants.
