The McLaren F1 took the title of fastest production car made back in 2001 as recall and it's top speed was 248 mph. I think it still holds that title but I can't be sure. I have not kept up with all the latest news. The Saleen was right behind it at somewhere around 220 or so. I do know there is currently another American manufacturer that is trying to take that record but I'm not sure they have been able to do it yet.

The F1 was close to $1 million as I recall.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 has 1001 horsepower. It is produced by Volkswagen. It has a 16 cylinder 8.0 liter engine with 4 turbos. It 's top speed is unknown (at least 250 mph), but it can go from 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and run a quarter mile in 10.4 seconds. It's engine can produce 6,000 rpms and 922 lb. feet of torque. At 30 miles an hour it pulls 0.99 lateral g's! It's cost is around 1 million dollars.
