The temperature of the water you wash the clothes in doesn't matter. Just dry the clothes on a high heat setting.

Some things may shrink quite a bit and some things just won't shrink at all. It really depends on the fabric. Natural fibers like cotton, rayon, etc. tend to shrink while synthetic fibers like polyester don't.

Most of the time if you want to shrink something wash it in hot water and then dry it. But some clothes won't shrink.

Wash knits in hot water. A heavy cloth jaCket would probably be best to be taken in. Take it to somewhere that does alterations, have it taken in.

wash it in hot water, rinse it in cold and dry it on the max heat setting on your dryer (more dry, or fully dry).
