I thought it was an awesome movie and beat TROY, BRAVEHEART and GLADIATOR. It's the best movie of 2007 in my humble opinion.

I won't sum up for you what it is about because someone before me did a good job of that, but I thought it was way better than Troy. Troy did have a deeper plot line, but 300 is nonstop action. It's basically a 2 hour fight scene, but the way it is filmed is excellent. I would def. reccomend you see it. I found Troy quite dull since I knew the story well, there is nothing dull about 300.

You've had a synopsis of the story line from other answers but the director has had a good idea using low key filming (muting the colours) and then accentuating the colours that had red in them, giving a definite comic book feel to the whole film.
As to whether it beats Troy depends on how you view it
Troy-- Love story/action/legend
300-- Historical epic/fact

300 is based on the true story of King Lionides, leader of the Spartans, and 300 of his soilders as they faced Xerxes, king of Persia (present day Iran) in the battle of Thermopylae.

Lionides decided to face the Persians at the Hot Gates which is a mountain pass that was very narrow with cliffs on the left and the cliffs leading down to the sea on the right. Because of this natural bottleneck the Spartans, using their Phalanx fighting style, were able to inflict staggering damage to Xerxes' great army - somewhere between 500,000 and 5,000,000.

The movie is filmed in heavy CGI style similar to "Sin City". If you liked that movie you'll love this one. Although I really enjoyed the film and would even go to see it again, my biggest complaint is that the movie seemed to be more interested in being the story instead of letting the story be the movie. The story itself is a remarkable, increadible tail and doesn't need any embelishment to make is so. But, Hollywood just can't seem to help itself.

I give is 3.5 stars out of 4

personally I think it's better than Troy, not nearly as good as Braveheart... in the caliber of Gladiator.

I found Troy dull at moments, esp moving the "love" story along, I did not have time to get bored during 300... I looked at my watch with a half hour left & couldn't believe that was all the time left & found myself wishing it was longer!

There are definitely some cheesy scenes/lines but overall it was one of the best war/action movies I've seen in awhile.

It is about the Battle of Thermopylae "hot gates" of 480 BC. Does it beat Brad Pitt's "Troy?" Toss up. They are both good. 300 is action from start to finish.

The Battle of Thermopylae is an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian Empire at the pass of Thermopylae in central Greece. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the Persians for three days in one of history's most famous last stands. A small force led by King Leonidas of Sparta blocked the only road through which the massive army of Xerxes I could pass. After three days of battle, a local resident named Ephialtes betrayed the Greeks by revealing a mountain path that led behind the Greek lines. Dismissing the rest of the army, King Leonidas stayed behind with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespian volunteers. The Persians succeeded in taking the pass but sustained heavy losses, extremely disproportionate to those of the Greeks. The fierce resistance of the Spartan-led army offered Athens the invaluable time to prepare for a decisive naval battle that would come to determine the outcome of the war.[1] The subsequent Greek victory at the Battle of Salamis left much of the Persian Empire's navy destroyed and Xerxes I was forced to retreat back to Asia, leaving his army in Greece under Mardonius, who was to meet the Greeks in battle one last time. The Spartans assembled at full strength and led a pan-Greek army that defeated the Persians decisively at the Battle of Plataea, ending the Greco-Persian War and with it the expansion of the Persian Empire into Europe.

yap! to put things simple, 300 is abt 300 warriors who sacrifice their lives defending their country against hundred of thousand of army.
now that u ask, I would prefer Troy. Has a better storyline and less CG. However, both movies have great fight stunts! Wow....
