Just nipped out on my lunch to see a PS3 running at the local HMV store, and i must say very dissapointed. It was running F1 which i thought looked very PS2. I remember seeing the 360 in all of the local stores running call of duty, and everyone stared in amazement, and indeed it made you go out and buy one.
I realise there isn't so much of a technological jump from the 360 to the ps3 and there was from ps2 to 360. But still i feel somewhat dissapointed. £500 is a lot of money, when you consider ive had the xbox for over a year for half this amount, and am still sniping people round a snow covered moscow, when i should probually be doing something else.
I think we will have to wait and see but i personally think that Sony may have missed the boat so to speak anyone agree?

Looks to me like Sony have shot themselves in the foot big time.
Apart from launching a machine in Europe 5 months late for £425 that is technologically inferior to the £305 machine available in the U.S. and Japan (they have taken the emotion engine chip out so many of the PS2 games will not play on European PS3's unlike American and Japanese PS3's), the PS2 (at £50) is outselling the PS3 in the US.
'Another dramatic example of Sony's predicament came with the news that on the other side of the Atlantic, where it has been available since November, the PS3 is lagging behind all of its rivals.
Figures from market analyst NPD suggest that Nintendo has taken the upper hand in America's console war, with the two top-selling games machines in February: the DS Lite (with 485,000 units sold) and the Wii (335,000). The six-year-old PlayStation 2 came next, selling 295,000 machines, followed by the Xbox 360 (228,000) and Sony's PlayStation Portable (176,000). Even Nintendo's Game Boy Advance (136,000) sold more units there last month than the new PlayStation 3, which shifted just 127,000.
Numbers like this will make tough reading in Tokyo, and leave one crucial question up in the air: after the loyalists are satisfied, how many people will want a new PlayStation?'
It would take a serious drop in price before I would consider touching one of these and this is from a big Gran Tourismo fan.
Whisper it, but could the PS3 be the new gamecube?

Yeah, the PS3 is nothing compared to the Xbox 360. Even though the 360 doesn't have as great of graphics, it still has Halo 3 and Gears of War. And most of the games for the PS3 are coming out for the 360. My opinion, is that you get a 360.

You can't base your entire opinion on a single launch game which you watched for 5 mins in shop without playing.
When the PS2 was released the new techonology was the emotion engine and it took a while for developers to learn to use the engine to its full potential. It will be the same of the PS3.
The Xbox 360 is only twice as powerful as a PS2 - the PS3 is around 10 times more powerful and with the cell processor, it will take time for it to develop.
Ok ok, so we have a PS3 in the post arriving tomorrow. Anyway, let's face it, everyones big problem with the PS3 is the price but Sony actually make a loss on the console; such is the power of the technology and the time it takes to develop it.
So ner ner ner ner, if you can't afford one or you are too tight to buy one. Ner ner ner cos you know you would love to get your greasy fingerprints on a shiny new black one tomorrow.

The 360 and PS3 are meant to be at similar levels of power and graphics. The jump is noticeable from PS2 to PS3.
However, good graphics do not make a boring game better. Either console can shoot themselves in the foot by making beautiful games that are completly horrible when it comes to playing them (IE Sonic the Hedgehog).
Flashy graphics only impress people who don't know enjoyable games from piles of crap.

I agree with Skitch; it just didn't capture my attention. I'll stick with the Ps2.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it. Nah, it just fails to capture my interest, besides that fact that it would leave me bankrupt.
