It has nothing to do with the Bible. It's called perjury, a serious crime.

I don't think that putting a hand on the Bible means jack s**t to most people, regardless of their religious beliefs. However, I think that if there's the threat of being charged with perjury looming over their heads, they'll be more likely to tell the truth. Of course, people have lied under oath many times, but they more often than not suffered the consequences afterwards.

You miss the point. The Bible isn't what makes it legally binding. Swearing the oath is. And if it doesn't bring the truth out... well, then we have another Scooter Libby situation. People are less likely to lie under oath than they are if they know they're not sworn to tell the truth. That's what Bush is afraid of. Putting them under oath gives them a personal stake in it, so they might reconsider lying if they're under oath.

What a lot of people, especially the loopy leftys, don't realize is that this Democrat dog & pony show has only one purpose; to distract people from the fact that the Democrats haven't kept a SINGLE promise that they made and they can't muster up support to do a SINGLE thing that they promised to get themselves elected.

They have taken a FREAKIN' non-issue and made it into a matter of national importance.

THE PRESIDENT HAS THE AUTHORITY TO FIRE ANY US ATTORNEY, ANY TIME HE WANTS, WITHOUT REASON IF HE SO DESIRES.

He doesn't have to explain this to anyone and that's why he will NOT allow Rove or Miers to testify under oath; it will weaken the authority of the President, NO MATTER WHO MAY BE SITTING IN THE BIG CHAIR!!!

Don't you Democrats see that Conyers and Boxer and Feinstein and Schumer and the rest of these effite idiots ARE PULLING THE WOOL OVER YOUR EYES?

THEY ARE SCARED TO DEATH THAT YOU'LL SEE JUST HOW INEFFECTUAL THEY REALLY ARE.

Well they can always give answers like Bill and Hilary, you know, "I don't recall" or "I have no recollection of that" or someone can just invoke their 5th Amendment Rights...you know like many Liberals have done in the past...also they could out right lie like John Kerry did when he gave testimony under oath to Congress on the war in Viet Nam...this is just more political posturing to make the President look bad...he has the right to hire or fire anyone he chooses...or do you just give that right to Democratic Presidents?

The thing is, if they don't believe in the Bible, and they lie under oath, as L. Scooter Libby did, then this is an impeachable offense.

I've never seen people rag so much about something that was not illegal. It's just the HUGE $$ signs that these attorneys are going to miss...AND maybe they won't be able to get 'unemployment'...

Whine...whine...whine. What truth needs to come out? This is political maneuver on the part of the Dems to make sure they get the White House in ''08. If people can't see that, then their ALL blind.

This congress has better and more important things to do than WASTE tax dollars on something that is NOT illegal to do. Get over it!!

I don't think it's about the bible anymore, it's more about acknowledging the court's authority and the consequences for lieing in a court of law.

Doesn't matter. They can swear on anything or nothing. Swearing or affirming is simply a way to impress upon the person under oath that they ARE under oath.

They can swear on dog crap, if that impresses this idea upon them.

Being under oath certainly didn't make Bill Clinton tell the truth!
